A cool UK start-up – Buyometric

From time to time I want to blog about UK based start-ups who I think are doing really cool things – the first of these is Buyometric.

Buyometric

Everyone knows about and is using Groupon, KGB Deals and a raft of others to get some great deals these days, the craze has really taken off. I had held back from signing up to these sites after trying Groupon and being sent offers that just weren’t relevant to me either in terms of what they were offering (ladies’ haircut & colour anyone?) or they were just geographically irrelevant (I’m not going to go to a 7am boot camp that’s halfway across London!).

Through my work with Enternships I recently came across Buyometric and decided to check them out. I have been thrilled with the result – I now get one email each morning which is hyper-personalised – it aggregates a number of deal sites and only sends me the deals I’m interested in and in the areas I’m interested in. Sometimes there’s 4 deals and sometimes there’s 12, but they’re almost all relevant.

Ok I still get the odd thing in an area I could never get to easily sent to me but I can forgive that when 90% of the email is so targeted to me. I switched about 2 weeks ago and bought my first deal after a couple of days – 8 fitness classes for £8 at a studio up the road from me – bargain!

So far I’m really happy with what I’m getting from them and look forward to seeing how they evolve. I would love to see another layer of ultra hyper localisation but I’m not sure how easy that will be to do in a city as big as London.

Are there any other deal aggregators like this out there? I haven’t bothered looking but I’d love to know. All in all I’m totally jealous – the premise is stunningly simple and I wish it had been my idea! Perhaps it will suffer from the same ‘low barrier to entry’ problem that has affected Groupon – personally I think their defence is in their ability to sign up deal partners and keeping the customer experience and hyper personalisation / localisation one step ahead of the competition.

Full disclosure: I have no affiliation with or financial interest in Buyometric, nor do I know the founders or staff and there are no affiliate links in this post – I just think it’s a cool service.

  • Having a deal is really hard, you have to think a lot before closing it. Well this buyometric helps us a lot to become more smarter;) thanks a lot for this very informative blog.

  • I came across http://www.mydealpage.co.uk which gives an instant overview of all the daily deals across the UK without having to sign up or anything. It also has very easy to use filter options! Check it out, would be worth writing about!

  • Fergus – thanks for that. So what do you think is better about mydealpage.co.uk than buyometric? I am unbiased, but having looked at mydealpage I’m not sure I would regularly go back. What’s great about Buyometric is that a personalised email arrives in my inbox every day – I don’t have to do anything and it takes less than a minute to look at.
